Few Facts About Calendar


The calendar is used primarily to identify date. This is a tool used to organize days for different personal, social, religious and commercial purposes.

The word “calendar” is derived from the Latin word “kalendae”, which means the first day of every month. The Lunar calendar is known as the oldest calendar invented by human civilization.

Many types of calendars are used throughout the world. Few are described below:

The Hebrew calendar is used by the Jews. The Hindu calendar is used in India. The Iranian calendar is used in Iran and Afghanistan. The Chinese calendar is used in China and some other Asian countries. The Buddhist calendar is used in some countries in Southeast Asia.

Today internationally accepted and widely used calendar is the Gregorian calendar. It was introduced by Aloysius Lilius, a doctor from Calabria.

Calendar is used by mankind from very early days. In such a long run calendar has been modified a lot. Today calendar is not merely a tool to identify days but also used as a perfect timekeeping system which helps people to keep track of all the events of their everyday life.
