2025 Public Holidays Finland Service
The above is the list of 2025 public holidays declared in Finland which includes federal, regional government holidays and popular observances. We also provide Finland holiday calendar for 2025 in Word, Excel, PDF and printable online formats.
The Republic of Finland currently commemorates 12 national holidays. Parliament establishes the national holidays in the country, and the official holiday lists are released each year.
In keeping with Parliament, Saturday and Sundays are official non-working days. Sundays in Finland are almost regarded as holidays for they give special meaning consistent with the liturgical calendar. Easter Sunday and Pentecost are Sundays ordinarily form part of the main holiday and are preceded by a special kind of Saturdays.
The official holidays in the Republic may be divided into Christian and non-Christian holidays. The essential Christian holidays are Christmas, New Year's Day, Epiphany, Easter, Ascension Day, Pentecost, Midsummer Day, and All Saints' Day. The non-Christian ones are May Day and the Independence Day of Finland.
Some Christian holidays conventionally falling on working days or fixed dates have been changed to Saturdays and Sundays. For instance, in 1955, Midsummer Day was transferred to the Saturday following 19th June, as well as the feast of the Annunciation which was set to the Sunday following 21st March.
The celebration of Finnish holidays remains on the date that they occur for most events. If a public holiday appears on a Sunday, it may transfer to the following day. In a majority of cases, only Easter is moved to a Monday fete. Many government offices and banks are closed early on the eve of a significant holiday. Numerous employers have kept an eye on the practice and close at 1:00 p.m. on the day before a holiday.
