In 1946, he was canonized by Pope Pius XII and thus became the first American to become a saint. Mother Cabrini is remembered for starting schools, hospitals, and many orphanages in the US. In 2017, Governor John Hickenlooper set a date in December that honored Mother Cabrini on the 100th anniversary of her death. In March 2020, governor Jared Polis of Colorado signed into law the bill that replaced Columbus Day with Cabrini Day.
